Fenofibrate
Lipanthyl is a lipid lowering agent that is a fabric derivative which activates the Peroxisome Proliferator Activated Receptors type Alpha (PPARα) to increase the lipolysis and elimination of atherogenic triglyceride rich particles from plasma by activating lipoprotein lipase which ultimately has a net effect in reduction of VLDL levels. And help lower "bad" cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the blood.
Indications:
• Hyperlipidemia [Hypertriglyceridemia].
• Reduction of cardiovascular risk.
Points of Interest:
• Advice the patient to avoid excessive sun exposure and use high SPF sunscreen since this medication may increase skin sensitivity to the sun.
How to use:
one tablet daily.
As per as direction of doctor.
Active Ingredients:
Fenofibrate.
Side effects:
• Increased aminotransferase concentrations.
• Increased creatinine concentration (reversible).
Cautions:
• In people with severe renal or liver dysfunction.
• Gall bladder disease/ pancreatitis.
Interactions:
• Statins: the risk of myopathy is the greatest when it is used in combination
with Fenofibrate.
• Colchicine: the concomitant use increases the risk of myopathy.
